FAHRENHEIT -457,69

fire on paper | 2022
310cm x 130cm

Fahrenheit -457,69 or absolute zero is the theoretical temperature of an atomic system without energy, without any more transformation. At the other extreme, Fahrenheit 451 - on a thermal scale and referring Ray Bradbury's dystopian literature - is the temperature at which the paper sets fire. Also referring to the German artistic movement "ZERO", the work brings a landscape that once was alive, and now crumbles into flames and early nostalgia of those who watch the erasing of life on a planet in accelerated decay. In a system without energy there is no possibility of new beginnings. In 2022 the mountain in front of the artist house was burned, Amazon is burning, South Africa, Angola, US, Europe. The world is on fire.
Geographic and thermal extremes meet in the post-industrial apocalypse of the capitalocene. This is not theoretical.
